The SS Karate Programme involves two events: Training Day Seminar and the Championships.
The training day is a new event to our Karate calendar and aims to bring clubs together ahead of our Championship event in February. We hope to support one of student clubs to host this event in November 2024.
The Championships includes male and female events (team and individual) for both kata and kumite, divided into novice and senior categories. Mixed Team opportunities are also provided

Meet your Sports Chair
Giovanni Rossi
Giovanni Enrico Rossi became the Chair of SSS Karate in June 2023. With his extensive experience in karate and dedication to the sport, he is well-suited for this role. As the Vice Chair since 2021, Giovanni has already been actively involved in the management and development of SSS Karate.
Giovanni’s involvement in karate spans over 27 years, during which he has trained in multiple styles such as Wado Ryu, Shotokan, and Shitoryu. His dedication to training has allowed him to achieve the rank of 1st Dan (Wado Ryu) and 3rd Dan (Shotokan, and Shitoryu) in these different styles, demonstrating his proficiency and expertise.
As well as his dedicated training programme, Giovanni has actively participated in student sport since 2009. He has competed and medalled in both BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport). From 2009-2012 he won team gold (4 times) and in he won 2014 individual heavy weight British University kumite champion) and participated and medalled in many SSS (Scottish Student Sport) competitions, showcasing his skills at a national level. Additionally, he has represented both Heriot Watt University and Glasgow University, earning full blue, an accolade awarded for exceptional sporting achievements.
In recognition of his knowledge and capabilities, Giovanni became the Head Instructor of Glasgow University Karate Club in 2019. This role allowed him to guide and mentor karate practitioners at the university, imparting his experience and fostering their growth in the sport.
Furthermore, Giovanni is a fully qualified Scottish Karate Governing Board instructor, coaching for both the University of Glasgow and for the United Karate Association. This certification highlights his commitment to promoting and teaching karate in Scotland, further enhancing his reputation and credibility within the karate community.
With Giovanni’s diverse and wide karate background, extensive experience, and passion for karate, he will make a valuable contribution to SSS Karate as the Chair. His leadership and expertise will undoubtedly help shape the future of the organization and promote the growth and development of karate in Scotland.
