Equality Action Group & Plan

Equality Action Group

The Scottish Student Sport Equality Action Group exists to champion, support and challenge our work to create a more inclusive student sport sector.

Working alongside our members, students and partners, the Group provides strategic leadership for equality across Scottish Student Sport. It oversees the delivery of our Equality Action Plan, helps identify emerging priorities and ensures that equality remains embedded across everything we do.

This page is the home for the work of the Equality Action Group. Here you can find information about the Group, our current membership, meeting updates, resources and the progress being made against our Equality Action Plan.

About the Equality Action Group

The Equality Action Group provides strategic oversight of equality work across Scottish Student Sport.

The Group works collaboratively to:

  • Oversee delivery of the Equality Action Plan.
  • Advise on strategic priorities and emerging issues.
  • Share knowledge and examples of effective practice.
  • Support collaboration across the tertiary education sector.
  • Champion inclusive approaches throughout Scottish Student Sport.

The Group meets regularly throughout the year and reports informally into the SSS Development Committee. The group is chaired by Waiyin Hatton.

Equality Action Plan

Our Equality Action Plan sets out our commitment to creating meaningful and lasting change across the sector. Rather than being a standalone document, the Action Plan is an active programme of work that shapes our priorities, partnerships and decision-making. Built around the principles of the Moving to Inclusion Framework, the Plan focuses on creating environments where every student has the opportunity to participate, lead and belong.

Our current priority themes are:

  • Women and Girls
  • Disability
  • LGBTQ+
  • Race and Ethnicity

The Equality Action Group monitors progress against the Plan and regularly reviews actions to ensure they continue to meet the needs of our members and the wider sector. The Equality Action Plan is intended to be a living document. As actions progress this page will be updated.

We are committed to being transparent about our progress, celebrating successes and sharing the learning that helps us continue improving.
