Responsible for the coordination and administration of a wide range of sport and physical activity programmes. The Sport Development Coordinator will play a key role in supporting club development, engaging students and increasing physical activity opportunities that encourage sustained involvement in sport whilst at university. The role holder will be responsible for supporting the delivery of a series of sporting events and liaising with internal and external stakeholders as required.
A key part of the role will include overseeing administrative processes to help support the delivery of all sporting activities.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the administrative coordination of key events (e.g. Glasgow taxis Cup, Rugby Varsity and Welcome Week events). This will involve extensive communication with University staff, Glasgow University Sports Association, SGBs, external partners and with staff from other universities.
- Responsible for the coordination and organisation of club committee seminars, club committee training and club education workshops. This includes the organisation of appropriate resources and the coordination of appropriate staff, and Glasgow University Sports Association (GUSA) Council members.
- Support the development recreational sport programmes, making independent decisions and suggestions as appropriate. Including the recruitment and management of Sport Organisers, as well as working with clubs to develop their rec sport offering as appropriate.
- Responsible for coordinating swimming pool lessons, recruitment of swim teachers and the administration of swimming pool programmes to benefit a diverse student community.
- To provide administrative support for on-going developmental projects (e.g. club BUCS/SSS entries, club development plans, funding applications and grant allocation).
- Responsible for key areas of sports club administration, including, but not limited to, Coach Registration, Volunteer Registration, Risk Assessments, Mandatory Club Documents, Data Collection.
- Responsible for the administration of the Online Club Sport Platform ‘MSL’. This will include but is not limited to; ensuring up to date information, training for club bearers, maintaining system records and escalating system issues where required.
- Provide administrative support for Club Development meetings and maintain records of actions and outcomes.
- Support other colleagues’ administration areas as required.
- To maintain an awareness of club sport related issues and attend professional development activities as appropriate.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Either: Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role. Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 (Advanced Higher / Scottish Vocational Qualification level 3, Higher National Certificate) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.
A2 Knowledge of a broad range of sports and their requirements.
A3 Awareness of community sport development principles and approaches to increasing participation.
Desirable:
B1 Understanding of University sport structures.
B2 Knowledge/experience of working digital platforms.
B3 UKCC or equivalent coaching qualifications.
Skills
Essential:
C1 Experience of monitoring participation data and producing reports and statistics to support service delivery and performance monitoring.
C2 Strong presentation skills.
C3 Track Record of team working.
C4 Ability to identify operational challenges and propose practical solutions to support the effective delivery of activities and services.
C5 Ability to work under pressure and deal with customer queries effectively, in a timely and proactive manner.
C6 Experience of planning, prioritising and managing short- and longer-term tasks to meet competing deadlines and service requirements.
C7 Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, with the ability to use Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint to support administration, reporting and communication activities.
Desirable:
D1 Ability to take initiative and innovate within the agreed dimensions and duties of the role.
D2 Highly agile and able to adapt within the ever-evolving digital landscape.
Experience
Essential:
E1 Relevant experience in a sport development environment with qualifications above OR evidence of progression and development gained through relevant experience
E2 Previous experience of organising sport events.
E3 Experience of working with others to support the delivery of events, or training.
E4 Experience in delivering presentations.
Desirable:
F1 Experience of working in a university sporting environment
F2 Experience of being on a Sport Club Committee.
F3 Experience of supporting programmes or events which target harder to reach or new participant groups.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 5, £28,031 – £31,236 per annum.
This post is full time and fixed term for up to 9 months from start date
